Day 11 Decazeville to Figeac

Big day today! We stayed at a lovely chateau last night about 3km out of Decazeville (the hosts picked up and dropped off in Decazeville) which was fabulous, but it felt like we were behind the 8 ball all day!

We expected and got hotter temperatures today – about 32C maximum – but couldn’t get away early because breakfast wasn’t till 7:30am and then we had to get dropped into town. The grocery store the guy dropped us at wasn’t open so we had to walk a bit further into town to the patisserie to get some lunch, so it was about 8:20am before we got walking.

The first 11km were very pretty – up the hill out of Decazeville, past the Chapelle of St Roch (there seem to be lots of them !!!), down the hill to Livinhac Le Haute, up the hill to Montredon. We stopped at both towns, first for a coffee and then for some early lunch but in the end we used up 4 hrs basically getting a third of the distance we needed to travel.

Between Montredon and the start of the descent into Figeac we moved through farming country again on various surfaces but the heat was getting to us, without much in the way of views to take our minds of it! We had a couple of more stops along the way, one using our chairs and a second at St Felix (where a bar was advertised but was closed).

The descent into Figeac was long, steep at times and hot but we finally got into town around 5:40 pm – first stop a beer and then checked into our room (which was a bit pokey, so we upgraded to a river view!)

We’re here for two nights thankfully and then some shorter stages through the Celè valley. 30 kms today and now 250 in total😁🍺.
