It’s been a great day off in Cahors. First of all, the hotel is great – not very French as you can see from the photos and not in the old part of town, so not close to the restaurants etc but air conditioned with a very comfortable bed and able to do laundry (but it’ll cost me!).
After a bit of a rest yesterday we walked back into town (slowly – it was still very hot) and had a very un- French meal – a hamburger each – and a few drinks. We were back in the hotel before 8pm and in bed by 8:30pm. We had a great sleep-in this morning and a slow breakfast before we headed in to town to do a bit of touristing – you can see some of the old buildings, the Cathedral of St Etienne (which is 900 years old this year) and the Pont Valentré in the photos.
We’ve been bumping into a Canadian couple, Jane and Lorraine, who are cycling through the region, since Cabrerets and we did so again when we stopped for a morning coffee. They mentioned they had found a vegetarian restaurant in Cahors that they were heading to for lunch, so we said our goodbyes, not expecting to see them again. Alison had spotted a nice little restaurant earlier in the day and after a second coffee we also headed for lunch and – you guessed it – it turned out to be the same place! We also saw but did not talk to a guy ( we call him tracky dacks because that’s what he has on most of the time) that we have also been bumping into on and off since the second day of our walk – might have to say hello if we we him again!
A quiet night planned for tonight – we got about 32 kms to walk tomorrow but hopefully not too hilly after the climb out of Cahors!
