Very nice night last night, we walked 300m back into the heart of the village, had a very nice dinner, dropped into the abbey in the way home to hear a youth choir sing a few songs and had a couple of Armagnac nightcaps. At the risk of repeating myself, last night’s hotel was just superb, we had a great night’s sleep fully refreshed for today and a wonderful breakfast before leaving the hotel just before 9:30am, under threatening skies and the forecast of a thunderstorm.

It was a bit tricky getting out of town – my map showed the trail coming in just next to the abbey, crossing the main road, which our hotel is on, and then heading down hill out of town. So we duly headed the 300m back up the street to the abbey and saw the waymarker (balise) pointing us back towards our hotel! Anyway, long story short they’ve changed to route to take pelerins past an old chateau at the end of town and out a different way – if we had have been in the slightest bit observant we would have spotted the waymarkers on either of the two times we’d walked down the street to the hotelšŸ˜€

Having finally navigated the way out, we made very good time toward Marsolan, past fields of wheat and sunflowers and sometimes through fields of wheat.

We’ve had a real agricultural awareness couple of days – we’ve seen wheat, sunflowers, corn, swedes or turnips, cherries, apricots, apples, shallots, melons to name a few! The farms are becoming bigger now and the toys fancieršŸ˜€.

We stopped for a coffee and cake at Marsolan after 2 1/2 hours, another very nice mediaeval village – we are passing through a couple of them each day and see many more on either side of the trail – it’s just amazing!

Bit of a slog for the last couple of hours into La Romieu (which itself is another beautiful village) – at one point the trail took us through what looked like a junk yard!

Anyway, an easy day today – we were in having a beer by 2pm and putting our feet up by 3pm!

19kms today and 492km in total.
