Well, despite the festival last night (complete with music until 5am), we both got a great night’s sleep and hit the road today full of beans! We knew we only had around 15km to walk so we took it pretty easy over breakfast and hit the road around 8:45am – still plenty of partygoers still at it and some looking like they were just starting to feel the hangover coming on!

Not long after leaving Saint Palais we headed up what felt like one of the biggest uphills we’ve ever done (but shown as an “easy” trail in the book) up to the three structures shown in one of the photos. We then went down about the same amount to the Stele Gibraltar (also shown in one of the photos) then back up the hill (again, you can see the track winding uphill in a photo) to the Chapelle de Soyantz, which is covered by several trees that have been grafted into one!

Back down the hill again past the Chapelle St-Nicholas and Harambeltz and then (thankfully) it was pretty flat going through the little village of Ostabat before stopping at the equally little village of Larceveau, arriving just before 1pm for lunch at the Hotel Espellet.

We are staying off the track tonight at a Chambres d’Hotes – nice couple running it but hardly a word of English between them and nice clean rooms but right next to a barn complete with a cow (seems to have since been moved) and a pile of *#*#. Flies everywhere of course which we have spent the afternoon killing! Not sure what the travel company were thinking … let’s hope the food is good and the flies disappear in the evening!

Anyway, apart from the flies a great walk and looking forward to tomorrow’s walk – 16km today and 722km in total with a day to go😀
