Today’s walk has been a testament to the recuperative power of the human body! After another lovely dinner supplied by Andrea we crashed out by 8pm and woke up a bit stiff and sore but ready to go again!
Andrea drove us back to the intersection of Cosy Corner Rd and the track and, after a bit of stuffing around putting on gaiters etc, we were off by 9:00am. An easy track at first heading up towards the Foul Bay lighthouse and then a much narrower but still fairly easy track along the hill to the east of Foul Bay, before dropping down to Foul Bay beach after about 4km. A short walk along the beach and then a steep climb up just before White Cliff Point and a short walk into Hamelin Bay where we had morning tea just over 5km into the day.
Boranup Beach is without doubt the prettiest beach on the Cape to Cape and, apart from some soft patches in the middle few kms, was a pleasure to walk again today. That said there was a lot of erosion and in some places almost jo beach at high tide. Similar to other beaches so far, a lot of flotsam and jetsam on the beach including lots of micro-plastics!
After just over 6.5 kms we climbed very steeply off the beach and about 1km into the bush land stopped in a lovely little camping spot for lunch. Close to the top of the hill we turned into Boranup Beach Rd and follow that for a while then into Trig Rd before reaching the turn off to the Boranup Lookout about 4.5kms after leaving the beach.
Shortly after the turnoff the terrain changed quite suddenly from bush to Karri Forest and the last 5 or 6 kms were on solid track in very nice dappled light. It was still a long stretch for the last leg and we were happy to see Boranup Dr at about 3:45pm – about 6 hours walking time and just under an hour of rest stops.
We saw a lot of other people today and stopped to chat to most – all are doing slightly different versions of the walk, with different stops along the way. All in all a very nice day, especially after yesterday! Going to the pub with Youngie and Margaret tonight!
