We’re in the middle of a 3 to 4 day hot spell – 30c maximums which is very unusual for this time of year – so a fairly early breakfast (for us!) so others who are going farther can try to beat the heat.
During the course of dinner last night we worked out we would probably not see Meropi and Stephen, who have been with us on and off since St. Jean, again so it was farewell and buen camino to them this morning before being transported back to Mazarife to re-start our journey. Another day on the meseta with few towns and pretty straightforward navigation: a dead straight road for 6km out of Mazarife, a bit of a zig-zag then a 6km dead straight dirt road past Villavante, our accommodation Molina Galochas and the train line to the AP-71. From there a bit of navigation to and then past the village of Puente de Órbigo, where we stopped for a quick coffee, then across the puente de Órbigo itself and into Hospital de Órbigo, where we are staying tonight.
The Casa Rural we are staying in looks great and we had a lovely lunch in town before coming back and relaxing for the afternoon.
Roughly 15kms today to bring the total to 473km so far. The waymarker distances are all over the place but we think we are less than 300km from Santiago now – time will tell! The route video technology had a bit of a hiccough today but I think I’ve got the manual version about right here.
