Our plan over the last 100km is to try to be the last to leave each day, and so have the trail to ourselves as much as possible. There are at least a couple of tour groups in our hotel and an unknown number of individual walkers, and they were certainly up and about early (as they had been the day before) to get started, many no doubt on their first day and excited to be heading off!
We’d checked the forecast last night and rain was expected from about 3pm in the afternoon, so our plan was to get away about 9:30am, knowing we only had 12km to walk. By morning the forecast was for rain starting from 11am and by the time we left our hotel it was sprinkling already. Fortunately Alison found a penny just as we put our ponchos on and the good luck kept us dry for the most part!
The trail takes you up through the old town, which we’d walked twice before, before going back down again and through some paddocks before once again heading steeply up.
Good coverage from trees kept us pretty dry as we passed through a number of small villages and we were still very dry when we stopped for a break at about the halfway point (this inside of Alison’s poncho was very wet, I think from sweat!).
The rain increased not long after we set off again, and got quite heavy as we approached the village of Peruscallo. There was a bar/cafe where we could have stopped but the forecast showed rain increasing throughout the day, so we pressed on for our destination 3km away. In the end it didn’t matter whether we stayed or pressed on – the rain stayed fairly light and then cleared not long after we stopped for the day!
Anyway, we made good time to our accommodation, Casa Morgade, which is really nice! I was a little worried as we got close – there have been a number of very small villages on today’s route that have been very “agricultural” and I was concerned we would be in one. No problem, however, the accommodation is very modern and not too close to a barn, although there do seem to be a few cows in the paddock the Casa is on!
No many photos today – it was wet and not much to see. 12km and now 650km in total and the video here. I forgot to turn my gps off when we arrived so there’s a lot of squiggles at the end!
