Very interesting place that we stayed at last night! When we arrived we were greeted by the lovely host, Monica, who was also the chef. There were what looked like two very large family lunches and a wedding reception/lunch all going on at once. The place was so full, we were expecting leftovers but were served a beautiful dinner just after 7:30pm as the last of the lunch guests were leaving! When we woke this morning the place was deserted, with breakfast left for us to serve ourselves!
Anyway, we’d been seeing the sort of day we could expect today on the weather app for over a week and it didn’t disappoint – constant rain from about 8:30am until just before we stopped! You may ask why we didn’t just wait, given the short day, but according to the forecast, it’s still raining.
We had a taxi booked to return us to the track at 10am (it was late – about 10:15am, pretty good for Spain but still after I’d called our host to say the taxi hadn’t arrived yet) and after arriving back in Ventas we suited up for the rain and set off. On the way there we could see the trail jam packed with walkers and it continued to be that way all day.
We stopped for a quick coffee after a couple of kms, I think in Perrera but there were more villages today than shown on the map. Not long after, the rain got a lot heavier than forecast and we sheltered for a while in Ligonde, first in a barn and then at the school.
We started to lose people as Albergues opened not long after Ligonde but it was still pretty busy. We stopped again after 7km, this time with a bit of food as well as a coffee at a lovely looking Casa next to the church in Lestedo.
From there it was a short 5km into Palas de Rei but, as has often happened, we’d been caught up by a wave of walkers, so it was very busy.
We got a bit confused coming into Palas but eventually got to the centre of town, had a drink and got picked up for another night off the trail. No weddings yet but we’ll see how busy it gets!
12kms today, 686km so far! The video is here.
