Our guidebook reminds us to remember that those walkers/pilgrims who join just outside the 100km mark may not have walked the distance we have but are still doing something important in their life and to respect their experience as much as those who’ve walked further. Last night at A Parada das Bestas we talked to a lovely couple who made that easy to do. Increasingly on the trail, though, there are folk who are rude, focused on themselves and do not have a brief chat and wish others a buen camino as they pass or are passed. Disappointing for them really because they are missing something that makes the walk special!
Anyway, we had another lovely stay away from the trail and awoke to clearer skies! By just after 9:15am we were back in Palas and on our way, hoping to get as far as possible before the rain set in again. Lots of villages in the early stages of the day and some beautiful sheltered paths through forest. As I’ve said before, the older paths are quite a bit below the surrounding area after years of walking, and there were lots of those today.
It was a short walk today but we still had a couple of stops just to break things up, first at San Xulián and then at O Coto, after which the rain settled in, albeit fairly lightly at first.
After beautiful walking through the wooded paths, we suddenly came to a light industrial area then, shortly after, the village of Furelos and the nearby Puente Velha. A bit of a slog through some crazy paving (seemed like a good idea to someone but not good to walk on!) then up the hill and then we were in Melide. We got a bit wet towards then end but much drier than yesterday!
15kms today for a new total of 701km and today’s route here.
