What a day! The forecast was for light rain and a breeze increasing throughout the morning to about 25 knots gusting to 39 knots. At times the path is very close to the cliffs, so I wanted to be away from them before it got too windy.
We set off in pretty good conditions, climbed up out of Portreath, got a bit lost going through a farmer’s field, did a big dip down and back up and then the rain hit us big time!
For the most part the track was very good despite the rain but we had to resort to the road into Hell’s Mouth cafe as the path got too muddy! We had a break and a bit to eat at the cafe before setting off and once again got hit with rain as we headed towards Navax Point. From there the rain just got heavier and the wind stronger until we reached Mutton Cove, where we did mange to spot some seals.
We opted out of going round Godrevy Point, heading instead for the car park. Unbelievably, there were plenty of tourists going out to the point in driving rain!
We opted for the slightly shorter route along the road to Hayle and gradually the rain dropped off. The last hour was pretty much rain free and usually that means we get in pretty dry but it had been so wet we arrived at our accommodation dripping still!
Anyway, we made it and I think much better weather from here on in. Just wondering what to do with all the wet clothes!
The restaurant at the place we’re staying is jam-packed for lunch but we’re booked in for a roast at 3:30pm!
