Another beautiful day’s walking today. It’s just amazing what a difference the conditions make to a walk: not having to fight against the wind, the rain or the terrain means the kilometres just disappear under your feet!
We got off to a bit of a late start but no rush because we had a short walk and no pressure from the weather. As was the case yesterday, the walk out of the village was sensational with lovely cottages giving way to miles of beach interrupted by the occasional headland.
About 1/3 of the way into the walk we crossed the Loe Bar, which dammed the Cober river about 800 years ago to create the Loe, the largest body of fresh water in Cornwall and allegedly the lake into which Excalibur was thrown near the end of King Arthur’s life.
Several stops today: near Dollar Cove for a coffee, at Poldhu Cove about a km later for lunch and at the chocolate factory between Mullion Cove and Mullion for another coffee.
We also passed the site from which Marconi and his team undertook the first wireless trans-Atlantic radio telegraph transmission in 1901 – the world’s come a long way in the 124 years since then!
We took the long route into Mullion to maximize the coastline we saw: we only have a short day tomorrow but there’s rain expected so we wanted to shorten tomorrow a bit!

Today’s walk with the little fish hook at the end!
