A beautiful day for our last walk of this trip! The weather is really cooling down and we set off in crisp air, a little bit of mist and a lot of dew. We stayed off the path last night so the first decision is how much coast to cut off without missing too much in the way of views – we took our host’s advice and headed off down a public path towards the coast. We passed through the lovely gardens of the Meudon Hotel and reached the path at Bream Cove.

A short walk to Maenporth Beach where we had a coffee then through Swanpool to Gyllyngvase Beach where we had an early lunch.

All these beaches are on the Atlantic side of the peninsula that Falmouth sits on and we could really have just walked across the peninsula to our hotel but we wanted to see Pendennis Castle that sits on Pendennis Point at the end of the peninsula – our last headland!

Falmouth is a very busy town – but of a shock after some of the isolated spots we’ve been to!

272km over 21 walking days – not a lot compared to some of our other walks but 1km on the tracks we’ve been on has felt equal to (and sometimes taken as long as) 2kms on our other walks.

That’s for this walk – beer, wine and food awaits!

The little cottage we stayed in at Mawnan Smith
Setting off across the paddock toward the coast
Looking back at the main house where we stayed
Passing through Meudon Hotel
Towards Bream Cove
…and at Bream Cove
More paddocks as we walk towards Maenporth beach
.and the kiosk where we stopped for a coffee
A memorial to those who served in the Home Guard patrolling the cliffs during WWII
Swanpool beach – all the we passed today were full of people swimming and enjoying what might be the last warm weather (today’s maximum was 16c!) before winter sets in
Falmouth, Gyllyngvase beach, Pendennis Castle and Pendennis Point
Lunch at “Gylly’s”
Pendennis Castle
Looking back from the castle to the coast and river sides of Falmouth
Back in civilization!
A couple of beers to celebrate!

Today’s walk – a great finish to an adventurous and sometimes arduous walk!
