Today’s walk had two completely different feels: very rural in the morning as we walked from Barrio de Castillo, past San Miguel de Meruelo then a modest ascent before dropping into a valley, where reputedly the best albergue on the Camino is located in Guemes. From there to Galizano where we had a very nice lunch – menu de dia with 3 courses and a bottle of wine!
From Galizano the walked changed altogether as the sun came out and we passed some of the most beautiful surf beaches I’ve seen and some great coastal scenery before walking along the Playa de los Tranquilos into Somo, then a ferry ride into Santander, our destination.
Second section of the Camino compete – 30kms today and now 269km in total: about a third of the way!
I’ve just been through your great blog guys, and have throughly enjoyed the beautiful photo’s and the accompanying reflections of the walk.
At times I was reminded of the joke where an Englishman arrives in Australia, loves the warm days then lands up in the north somewhere with no aircon, millions of flies and temperatures around 50, wondering why anyone would ever want to live in Aus. Your walk started off being through beautiful undulating country then a mega-rainy day, huge climbs, goat tracks, mishaps with the walking poles, gout, a bung knee and after a huge day walking – the posada turns out to be “just” 8 kms away – I am loving it. Very envious and your story has me confessing to Linley I would love to do something similar!
See what you’ve done!
Keep it going – can’t wait for the next section.
