We had a great flight from Perth to London, although we probably should have had a bit more sleep on the 16 hour flight. Very bumpy coming out of Perth due to the storm front that was pushing into Perth as we left, so the service was a bit slow – that’s my excuse anyway, I’m sure the lack of sleep wasn’t due to the number of red wines after dinner!

We had a few hours layover in Heathrow, so second breakfast and a champagne for each of us😀. Not long after I took the picture I realised I had left my iPad at security, so that sent me scampering back to try to retrieve it, which fortunately I was able to.

The train station at Charles de Gaulle airport was just crazy with people so we were very happy to get on the train to Lyon to relax for a couple of hours before having the same experience at Lyon train station. That said, everything went smoothly with the closest we came to trouble was a fairly quick change of trains at St Etienne Châteaucreux. The trip from there to Le Pty was stunning, travelling along the Loire river towards its source in the Haute Loire.

I exaggerated the length of the trip in the last post – we got in to our accomodation, Le Regina hotel, at about 5:30 pm local time, 11:30 pm in Perth, just under 30 hours after our plane left Perth.

Fortunately there was an Irish bar, le Shamrock, just around the corner where we could rehydrate before an early dinner. We’re in Le Puy for four days before heading out next Tuesday!

  1. Davo lucky break with the iPad. Al would have given you some grief otherwise. Then some Irish luck. The story just keeps getting better! Hey you guys have missed our eighth shitty cold wet winters day in a row. Keep riding the wave I say.
