Logroño was a really lovely town with lots of restaurants and tapas bar – you could spend a week there and not eat at the same place twice!

Today could have been a long walk of around 30km but we decided that was too far and had gotten a hold of a number for a taxi to pick us up at around the 20km mark. We were also worried about a thunderstorm that was forecast to hit at around 3pm – in the end it wasn’t a bad one but you are pretty exposed once the lightning starts and we had a couple of really close ones last night in Logroño.

Anyway, another really beautiful morning’s walk, first along city streets but quickly turning to parkland on well paved paths out to the Park Granjera and then the Pantano de La Grajera. A short uphill and over into the next valley followed and then a fairly flat walk before we climbed up to Navarrete for a sandwich and a beer. We had been expecting a few restaurants but not much happening on a Tuesday in Navarrete it seems!

It got a bit hot after Navarrete as we walked near to or along roads past vineyards and olive trees, trying to make the remaining 7km or so to Ventosa before the storm. We got there about 2:30pm and heard the first drops as we had a beer waiting for the taxi.

20km even today for 191km in total – the route video is here, including the taxi ride to Nájera!

Looking back east over the lake to Logroño and Viana in the far distance.
Up and over todays peak and into the next valley
The Osborne Bull, one of 28 former cigarette billboards in Spain, allowed to remain despite the ban on cigarette advertising because of their iconic status!
Navarrete ahead of us
A quick stop for early lunch in Navarrete
The cemetery just out of Navarrete. Apparently these arches had been relocated from a monastery.
