Interesting day today! The bad weather is definitely with us now and it is a question of trying to time our walks to avoid the worst of it. The weather systems are not like the fronts we get through Perth and they can change without much notice. Still, only a couple of days left so a little water shouldn’t be too bad!

We had a pretty good stay in Melide, which is a bit of a crossroads town. A nice lunch and dinner plus we picked up new ponchos which could ensure the bad weather leaves us alone.

It was nice to not have to get a ride to the Camino and we walked out of our hotel relatively early just before 9am into strong winds, quite warm conditions and the threat of rain.

The way marking out of Melide was not good and we did a bit of circle work before starting in earnest towards Arzúa. Lots of foot traffic in the early going plus lots of stops as we tried to adjust our clothing to the conditions.

A lot of villages again today and many bar/cafes. The traffic on the Camino continues to come in waves and we alternated between walking alone and hemmed in by big groups. Lots of hills and valleys as well, mostly in pleasant tree lined trails but increasingly alongside roads as we neared Arzúa.

Arzúa is where the Camino del Norte meets the Camino Francés, so we are now back on paths that we have walked before!

15km today, 716km in total and the route video here.

Heading out from our hotel- the hat didn’t last long!
The camino heading out of Melide – we’d done a bit of a loop to get here…
We need to get two stamps – sellos – each day. Alison is getting one from the parish church just outside Melide
A stone bridge and the lovely tree lined route before Boente
A couple of gear changes later, Alison after a coffee in Boente
Heavier foot traffic after our stop in Boente
Beautiful walking again less than a kilometre later as the crowds thin out

Another lovely bridge, this time across the rio Iso into Ribadiso
There’s been a few of the murals on the outskirts of towns, this one as we head into Arzúa
The intersection of the Camino del Norte and the Camino Francés, where we had last stood on 1 September 2016!
