A very short walk today – just over 10kms which we really needed as Al’s feet are giving her a bit of trouble!

As it always is during a festival, last night was a bit weird – difficult to get any help to find dinner, which we finally did have at the hotel – as the locals completely let go of it and have a blast! Apparently today they are running the bulls through the local streets of Viana…

We got off to a late start due to the short day and, after descending from Viana into the countryside, took a variety of fairly good trails, mostly flat. We passed the Ermita picture after about 3km and then into La Rioja after another 3km – leaving Navarre and the Basque Country behind.

The walk in Logroño was lovely, sort of coming in from the side rather than through the industrial area and the suburbs.

I’m rounding it to 10km today, making 171km in total – route map here.

The church of San Pedro next to our hotel as we leave Viana
The main road cleared of revellers and debris, either by the overnight storm or a hose!
The Porte San Felices on the way out of town

Logroño in the distance, just under 10kms away
Looking northeast back to Viana
Ermita de La Trinidad de Cuevas
The coastal mountain ranges to our north – we walked on northern side of these on the Camino del Norte, which is about 100km to the north of us
Viana – cars go straight but we ramble through the countryside!
Entering La Rioja
Getting closer to Logroño
Puente de Piedra across the rió Ebro and into the old town
Early arrival at our hotel Calle Mayor
